Gorilla by Anthony Browne

Image
Over the past few weeks, fourth class have used the story 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne as inspiration for drama. We really enjoyed this story and therefore we found it easy to use our imaginations to think of many more adventures that Hannah and the gorilla might have gone on other than those mentioned in the book. We then acted some of these adventures out. The theme of the story is friendship which connected well to a lot of other activities we were doing in school at the same time for Friendship Week. One of these activities was 'filling each others buckets' which we would be happy to tell you about. Here is a YouTube link of the full story if anyone would like to listen to it again at home. The words also appear on screen which means you can read along. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgaCzuFtKoI

Blue Star

Hi everyone! This year we are taking part in the Blue Star SESE programme. According to their website this is " an education initiative for primary school pupils across Ireland. The idea of the Programme is simple: to foster better understanding and knowledge of the European Union and how it affects the lives of Irish citizens among primary pupils through classroom projects and activities."  Here is a link to the website for anyone who would like to take a further look:  http://www.bluestarprogramme.ie/about/ After learning some new information about Europe and the European Union, we split into groups and researched and prepared projects based on various EU countries. We tried to choose countries that we had connection to in the class, such as girls in the class who were born in these countries, or girls who had family members living in certain countries. Have a look at some of our projects:

Have a listen!

Here we are singing a round of the three songs 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot', 'I wanna sing' and 'When the Saints go Marching In'. Each group had to sing their own piece whilst trying not to be distracted by the other two groups which was really difficult, but we think we did a good job! Have a listen here:
